Hi all,

Am a bit worried, couple days ago I added 4 small (1inch) silver dollars to my tank. In tank are couple small severum and a green terror and a marble motoro and retic ray, both under 7 In disc.

All parameters are the same as always but since adding dollars my rays are constantly buried in sand and won't even come out to feed whereas normally are vicious!

Is this just due to new tank addition or should I be worried?

Thanks

Thats unusual whenever I add any small fish they want to eat it mine are 5" motoros. Everyone has told me a hungry ray is a happy ray and they won't turn down food. Maybe something else is going on. I wouldn't think a 1" SD would be a threat but a meal for the rays...

This is what I thought? I can only think maybe brought something in with the fish that the rays arent happy with :/

Will do a water change to see if helps.

Positive all params are the same?

If they are, is there any other smaller "dither" fish that were swimming around the water column before? Only thought I have is that addition of fish that are not bottom dwellers and possibly fast moving fish that steal food before it lands could cause the rays to stress. However usually you may see this with one but not all of your stock. So you are right, this is strange.

You are focused on adding the dollars. Did anything else happen during or around that time with respect to their environment that may have them stressed?

This is a good possibility since every fish I add will go into a hospital tank for a month or two. My rays are in the sand a lot but act normal. Like someone stated check water parameters its not normal.

Any pics of the rays? The motoro is hardy but not the retic.

How long have you had the rays for? If they are wild caught they could already have some worms/parasites

Thanks for your reply. The other fish before were the green terror and severums, all about 3 inch and not fast moving. They seem fine still.

And I feed the fish pellets but the rays always get fresh food so they shouldn't be stressed due to that as I've now been placing food in front of them with tongs but they take a little and then bury again.

Params still the same, but i turned the temp of the tank a couple days ago up by 1 degree as was sitting low at 24 so increased to 25. Put in a new small plant at time of putting in dollars, would these have caused the stress?

Thanks.

I'm going to do water change now.

And had both about year and treated both for worms with prazi a couple months ago.

Yeah hopefully it does something. My motoro is 2 months old at 5-6". How is that you had yours for a year and its 7"? I hear it should be about a foot in a year or so.

How big is the tank?

I averaged out, retic is 6 in and motoro 8 in. Its a marble motoro and parents were both small, mum was about 13 in. Is currently in a 4 x 2.5 x 2 grow out.

Eats like a big though! Well was lol
