Sorry if i didnt post this in the right forum but I didnt know were to go. I have a 55g native brackish tank i put some large sticks in about a month ago and they have started growing this strange white slime. Anybody know what it is? Harmful to my fish? how do i get rid of it?

You could try taking it out and cleaning it off, or using a python to clean your tank. Do you clean and do water changes as you should?

Also could try what I think is called aqua clear. In a way it clings on to particles in the water and weighs them down and pulls to the bottom of tank.

Ya i do water changes every two weeks every sat after work ive cleaned the sticks three times now even shaved a layer off the sticks. I have a channel cat and a bluegill every now and again i catch them rubbing up on the slime like it feels good to them. Ill have to buy a bottle of that stuff see how it works. I was also thinking about getting a pleco but i dont know if the slime will harm him

Sounds like some kind of silt rather than fungus, or parasites. Should be ok, but Ill let someone else chime in.

Perhaps a form of algae. Did you boil the wood? If not do that.

I've gotten it on new wood... always just left it in and it clears up on its own, not harmful to fish... I would imagine especially so since it's a brackish tank. If you really want to be rid of it, boil the wood as mentioned.
