Strange thing in water

Hello
I have a friend who found a bug/parasite in 2 of his tanks. He says it is white with round bug eyes and small front legs. It is about .5" I don't have any photos but its head looks like a praying mantis.... Any ideas??

If it's a saltwater setup, it could potentially be a Mantis Shrimp. Meaning, don't poke it
