I tried very hard to get a picture of this, but it just wouldn't show up. In my 125 with 2 oscars (one temporary), a flagtail, a pearsei, a green terror, endli bichir, and senegal bichir, my large oscar (13") has developed a strange, white, translucent, cloudiness over most of his body. Looks like the slime coat is just super thick. I'm very sorry for the terrible description, I will keep trying to get pictures. Temperature is 78 degrees, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, ph 7.4, nitrate 15 ppm, no plants, weekly 50% water changes and eating hikari cichlid gold and tilapia filets.

I haven't seen this before, and it is now just barely starting to show up on my small (8") oscar as well. Has anybody seen anything like this???

It is possible that your fish have slime disease which can be caused by ich or protozoa, but it can be caused by other parasites also it creates a production of exes mucus build up that will eventually suffocate your fish. it can also be caused by water quality. do you use water conditioner when you change the water?

Yes I do use conditioner. If that's what it is, how do I fix it?

the conditioner should not be the problem unless it says not for use of that type of fish. if you feed live its possible you got infected feeders. if not i dont know how the parasite got in but you can get medicine for the fish to kill the parasite but it can be hard on the fish though oscars are pretty sturdy. you should look up the disease online to see what treatment options there are

Research says raised temp and salt will fix this one too! Thanks for the diagnosis help guys!

You don't want to raise the temp for bacterial infections--which is what this sounds like (best diagnosis I can give without a good picture).

From what ive read, Slime disease is the result of parasites. The symptoms fit perfectly. I'll try it and watch very closely.

Not columnaris? Much more common.

No, it's not columnaris. Columnaris attacks the mouth and fins first. In my fish, mouth and fins are totally fine. It really is best described as cloudy spots on the body. If I had been able to get pictures, you'd be able to see what I mean, but it just didn't show up in pictures. My fault for not having proper equipment or know how to get good pictures.

But the raised temp and increased salt seem to be helping. Cloudy spots are shrinking.
