I have a jv oscar in a 45 while the 55 is cleared and during cleaning I am finding strange worms. I've had saltwater before and know that there are beneficial worms in tanks but wife is making me post this because it is grossing her out.

These worms are at largest 3cm or so and have some kind of suction mechanism at either end(like an inch worm). They live mostly in the substrate and filter(fluval 405).

To give some history this tank before this was inhabited by large goldfish that mysteriously died within the course of three weeks after living fine for 2 years.

These worms do not seem to be hindering my little oscar but there is some concern.

Large quantities are found during a water change. I have held them and they do not bite or anything else noticeable.

Does anyone have any experience with tese worms? Good or bad.

Sounds like planaria. Reduce or stop all feeding to the tank and do daily water changes or gravel cleanings. They should reduce quickly. Its normal to have planaria, just when you over feed or your water quality becomes bad they multiply a lot.

Do not think they are panaria based on pics. There is no arrow shaped head. The pics I have seen of these are too different.

planaria dont have to have narrow shaped heads... and vary greatly in size and shape.
