Hello I wasnt sure where to put this but im in need of help. I had someone pick me up this large strawberry pot for use in a 75g convict breeding tank and when it got home i noticed theres some kind of paint or something on the inside and im very doubtful on putting it in the tank i wondered if someone would know what it might be?

Not the correct forum for this by any means.

If it's a glaze (fired in the kiln) it will be inert and fine. If it's paint I wouldn't use it. I cannot tell which it is from the photo.

If it were glaze or sealer it would be ok? is there a sure way i might tell.

Thank you for responding and I know it is not the right place for the post but i was not sure where to put it that i might get a response and it was intended for use with central and southern cichlids. .

From the photo it looks like it has a matte finish. Most glazes tend to have a bit more gloss to them (though there are matte glazes).

If it's a paint you could probably scratch it with a metal instrument of some sort. If it's glazed it's going to be very hard to scrape through to the terracotta underneath.

Glazes are fine in aquarium. Paint not so much.

i think its some form of sealer im not going to even take the risk if i cant return it ill just have to put it to use with some plants thanks for the help sorry to waste peoples time with a ridiculous question but ive never come across anything like this on terra cotta pots. thanks for the help.

Can you boil it?

I was thinking this was going to be about something else.

(in homer voice) mmmmm strawberry pot
