I am planning on converting my 55 gal native aquarium into a flowing stream aquarium and stock it with some natives from local streams. I am curious how others have their tanks set up. I am also curious how much current/flow should be in the tank. Any info on how many gph I should be looking for in pumps and recommendations on how to set up the tank would be greatly appreciated. I am running a 55 gallon aquarium with a canister filter right now.

I had a 55 set up as a stream tank. I used a sump with a 600gph pump, but anything over 10 times turnover will do. And a spray bar along the bottom on one side. Here's a video

+1 on the anything over 10 times turnover. When I had mine I had used a 1000gph canister but ended up restricting the flow a little to waste less food. Recommend a rock or other obstacles to give some slower flow area if going much faster.

It really depends on what you are looking at for an aquarium, technicallly a lot of "stream" species can tolerate lake/pond setting. If you are looking to make a stream style aquarium make sure you the spray bar as Mr. Catfish said. Make sure your inlets are all on one side where the outlets are on the other. As for my tank, but have obstructions in the tank to break up the flow somewhat. I have a brook trout, with approximately 13-14 times turn over per hour with an aerator in the back. He has been doing well for quite a few months now and is healthy and growing well. I run an aquaclear and a maxijet for my main flow.

I have my 150 currently set up as a stream style tank. I have everything pushing water on the left side and everything pulling water on the right. I have a 3000 gph filter, a 650 gph filter and five 1200-1400 powerheads. The current is quite strong, but with so much water it is hard to get it moving.

Thats 64+x the turn over rate. You have a video and what kind of fish?

Its setup for my GATF who is a current lover in the extreme. Below is the setup about six months ago. I now have fewer fish. The fish I have are larger. The current is now MUCH stronger than is pictured there.

Edited to add: the silver aro and RTC belong to my sister and the payaras were sold. The only two fish from this video that were actually mine are the GATF and the juruense. I still have both of those.
