Hey gang...

As you may know my username is Mastiffman for a reason....

Washing my Dogs is quite a "Chore" on the ground... I was looking at a mag the other day adn saw some raised, walkin Bathing Units for dogs...

My Question is whether or not The Resin used for Making Wooden Aquariums would withstand the wear and tear of 165- 210lbs Mastiffs....

Or shuold I just use Plywood, then hardy-backer and adhesive and then Tiles and seal all of that. The unit will have a Drain in the middle for soap and suds that I could pipe into the drains in the house...

Anyone have thought on this?

Personally I wouldn't think that the resin would stand up to their nails for long... If you put enough coats on maybe but even then it would get scratched up pretty badly and I'd think that would cause the hair and dirt etc. to get caught in the base on the way to the drain.

Really cool idea though I might consider it for my Boxer..... she doesn't care for the tub and I get aweful wet in the shower :irked:

Yeah, That's why I think that Tile would almost be a better way to go. as long as I seal the Grout it should be fine... No? yeah, it would be mucheasier onthe back!

I don't see why it wouldn't work if you sealed it off and then put down tile, or maybe even vinyl flooring on top of the resin?

If you're talking about the fiberglass resin that sorta looks like syrup, you should be fine. It's the same stuff they use for body work on cars and boats. I used to use it for making custom speaker enclosures and on one piece I wasn't happy with I tried to smash it with a hammer just for the fun of it and it wouldn't break. That being said whether you use the resin or tile you're still going to have to frame the unit and personally I think the tile would be quicker and easier. If you don't know how to lay tile just youtube it and its as easy as it looks plus you can consider it a learning tool if you decide to tile your kitchen or bathrooms.

Hey guys,

thanks for the responses. I think that using Tile would be a great idea and then sealing it. I have laid tile before with great results so I may end up doing this. I could use the plastic panelling that is supplied at home improvment stores on the sides. This all has given me some great ideas. Not to sure when I'm going to start the project as I have many others to attend to as well as the 4 Mastiffs that I have and their care! ;)
