Stress Coat and aloe vera? I put my Flagtail in the 220 g ware most of the fish are and the Buenos Aires tetra are nipping at his tail. I went to the pet store to see what I could get to help him and was looking at Stress Coat and saw that it had aloe vera in it. I was reading the label and it was talking about how it. Works to remove chlorine and chloramines and neutralize heavy metals found in tap water for a healthy aquarium environment. I do not need that. I have well water and I filter it before it goes in to the tank. but is is also supposed to Helps reduce fish stress and heal damaged tissue that may occur as a result of handling, shipping, fish fighting or other stressors. Considering I am treating 200 gallons and a gallon bottle of aloe vera is the same price as a small bottle of Stress Coat. I did a google search on it but did not find much. I was coniddering dumping in 1/4 cup of Fruit Of The Earth Aloe Vera Juice With 99.8% Aloe. This stuff is for drinking NOT the stuff they sell for sun burn that has a bunch of other stuff in it. Is this ok to do? Yes if I could I would pull the Flagtail out and keep him some ware else but do not want to put him through the stress of chasing him around the tank and catching him. If he stays near the Silver Dollars he is fine.

How many BATs do you have? IME 6 or more they only pay attention to each other less than that they get nippy.

Your best bet for a water conditioner is pond prime it is concentrated I buy it by the gallon for $84.00 bucks it treats 80.000 gallons and 16.9 oz treats 10.000 gallons that's a bang for your buck

I know I have a few more than 6 BATs. I already have the aloe vera juice and I am just looking to see if anyone can find a reason why I shouldn't use it in my aquarium. Also how much of it I should try in my 200 gallon tank.

I came home and the flag tail did not look vary good. I put a little over a teaspoon of aloe in the tank water. then decided that he needed put back in the quarantine tank so I filled the 40 g quarantine tank with the water from the tank he was in and some fresh water and moved him in to it. I am expecting more fish to arrive Friday so he can stay in that tank till they come. then he will go in to the 625 g tank. The good news is that the 220 g tank is getting plenty of fresh water with as many times that I have used it to fill other tanks then fill it back up with fresh. I counted and I think I have 8 to 10 Buenos Aires tetras I can get more if you think that will help. I picked up 15 more blood fin tetra today I must be getting closes to 50 of them total.

I've never used aloe in a tank so I can't advise on it. You should have enought Tetras where they shouldn't bother other fish. I know BATs are hyper fish but in a group they shouldn't nip fins. I'm woundering if there is somthing about the Flag Tail that's attracting them. I never kept the two species together so I don't know what would be considered normal interaction between them. Maybe some others can help with this or you can ask over in Other Characins for some advise.

I think I will pick up 2 more BATs the next time I am at the LFS.

a long time ago I tried some aloe in a tank because I had it on hand. can't give you exact info, but just keep in mind not to add too much. it is whole liquid plant matter & begins to break down very quickly in warm water, whereas Not So when alone in either an airtight bottle or refrigerated.
I did xtra water changes in a small tank during use (don't remember details). It was long enough ago that I'm sure the tank was under-filtered. nothing bad happened.

Fish treatments probably use an extract. it'd be more stable in water, and concentrated for some "contact" effect without spoilage.
