Hi all. I have a breeding pair of Jewels. They had there first frys about 3 weeks ago. They sure do have a lot!. Anyway I moved about half of them into a 10g and now the female went from her ususal bright red to a sickly grey very quickly, should I be worried or is this normal? Thanks

Make sure your water parameters are good. The fish should be ok as long as your waters good. I have a pair of H. Fasciatus. I had to move (into a new house) them while the eggs were still larvae. It sucked so bad. Pair was real stressed they colored back up after a day or so. I also just stripped all the fry about 3 weeks ago, they were pretty stressed but now I'm on my 2nd batch! I'm a first time fish daddy as well so still learning.

When the African jewelfish is ready to breed, females will turn a deep red color to let the male know. The male and female will bond or jawlock and the male will release sperm on the eggs. The female will then lay the eggs on a flat surface. The female will protect her eggs and will kill anything that comes in close proximity. In a couple of days the eggs will hatch and the female will still protect them. The female can reproduce every three weeks. You’ll see a change in color, belly size, and aggression level. Cheers! If you still have problems address the primary concern of food, water parameters, and stress. Good Luck Mate!
