Hey all,

Picked up a pleco about a week ago and he's been doing well. When I got home from work today, however, I noticed a long string of poop hanging off the back of him, and some wrapped around the filter intake.

At the moment he's just eating the algae, but I do have a piece of driftwood, and I also have wafers, but haven't used them yet.

Does he just need some veggies? or is there something else wrong?

Thanks in advance

-Adam-

Sounds like a healthy pleco. So long as the poop isn't white, you don't need to worry.

How long is healthy? 10" to 20" to much? Brown not white. And he's been doing it for 2yrs. Also tank temp is 26 degrees celsius, is that to high? South american cichlid tank. He gets waffers, but also gets sinking pellets others miss, mxaybe to much protein. HELP

Sounds pretty normal :nilly:

Brown or green is fine, long and stringy is normal, and copious quantities.

A pooping pleco is a happy pleco, if they stop, then you need to worry.

hi, your plec looks nice! mine is the same, a common plec. he gets algae wafers, also just eating the algae that grows in your tank will not be enough for him, throw in some zucchini or blanched pumpkin and he'll love that.
