Will these fish be anymore active with increased numbers? If I bought two or three SRC, will they be more active than if I just bought one?

A few years ago maybe like ten years. I had 3 of these in my 125 planted tank. I never saw these guys out and thought at one point they had died. Well I gave that tank and its fish away to a friend of mine before I move into my new place. He still has all 3 of them and they still hide all the time. I love the fish. I would buy more, but I would not expect to see them every day unless they did not have many hiding places in the tank.

They Are neat but are super boring fish

:iagree: Very boring. I thought mine already died until I saw him several months later after buying him.:screwy:

Yes, in groups of five or more they are more active. As in you might see one of them fleeing across the tank once a week to find a new hidey. I trained mine to eat out of a feeding tube and they (two of the five, actually) would chase it around the tank sticking their heads in it.

Not a schooling fish from what I know. Agree with the others, very boring fish. You will hardly evere see it.

PS: If you are getting a group of 5 or more like knifegill sugested, keep in mind that they grow at 10 in! each!

Usually more like seven or eight inches, but best to plan for bigger for sure!

They might be boring, but just knowing you've got this:

lurking under the decor is enough to keep that blood hot, isn't it?

Have you considered amblydoras nauticus? Stay smaller but come out all day!
