I have two striped Raphs in a tank I am in the process of shutting down. Before I give them away I was wondering if they could survive in a tank w larger cichlids. Like jags oscars Buttis flower horns etc. thanks.

Seeing as how they're pretty heavily armoured I would think that if they're a nice size compared to the cichlids they should be fine

Well they are definitely smaller. They maybe three to four inches. The cichlids are about eight inches. The Raphs always hide though. I was wondering if I put them in first with hiding spots would they do well?

At that size, the cichlid should get at best a mouthful of spines. Not sure they are in danger and given a tight hiding spot and night time feedings they should do fine.

Not much a cichlid can do to them because of that spike armor plating. Unless the cichlid was big enough to swallow it whole I wouldn't worry. I'd worry more about the cichlids actually.

I had one with a breeding pair of JD, not that they are the most aggressive cichlids ever, but they only bothered it ONCE! After that nothing, and it was just a heavy nudge the JD gave it. Enough to find out it hurts to punch em LOL!

Okay great. Thanks for the help everyone. I was a little worried about them thinking I would have to get rid of them. I didn't want to give them away because I really like them but I also would rather do that than have them get killed. I think I'll put them in the tanks first and let them get adjusted and settled into their caves and then move the cichlids in later. Thanks a lot.
