I'm thinking about getting a new cichlid and I like to get them as small as possible to grow them out, just one of my things, but my concern is I have a 4" Striped Raphael cat and I'm nervous about it eating the cichlid during the night. Does anybody have any advice/experience?

A raphael catfish at 4" won't be able to eat anything bigger than a male guppy. They don't outright hunt for fish and if your cichlid is at least two inches long and fat, he'll be fine. If he dies on his own, though, don't blame your raph for chewing on the carcass.
