So I have 3 fish carrying eggs in my tank with the most mature being my red zebra. I think she carried for 10 days. I decided to try and strip her of the eggs and boy was it nerve racking. I ended up successful with 12 little fry. The fry appear to have their egg sacks still attached and go from swimming around to just sitting motionless. I currently have them in a net within my breeder box. I have a net breeder box and realized that the fish can suck the fry through the net, thus I double bagged. This weekend I plan to go get a heater and place them in my 10 gallon tank. My question is. How long do they stay in this state and when do I need to feed them.
By the way the mother is doing well. She began eating as soon as I put her back in the tank. For some reason some of my fish got very aggressive with her when she was reintroduced which was strange as they didn't bother her while she was carrying. Now they have all settled down.
From one newbie to other newbies the trick to stopping the fish is to grab it in the correct spot and gently press against the gills. I used a paper clip to open her mouth, but couldn't get her to budge until I held her correctly. Hopefully she didn't get too stressed out and fattens up. The male is already trying to mate with her again.
Thanks again.
