Hello MFK'ers

I have a puffer that is trying to overcome internal parasites after I've treated him, and I'm trying to get him to eat and bless his heart he is trying but his 'beak' looks a little bit too large and he's struggling (bloodworm is all he'll even attempt to take at the moment' - Anyway, I sedated him with some clove oil as per the correct procedure and I took him out to trim his teeth.. but I'm really struggling to get his beak to expose enough so that i can cut it properly.. I know that every second is vital and I know that his beak does need to be trimmed.. but it's so difficult to get a clear cut! Anyone have any tips for me?

Thanks

Jack

would large nail clippers work im not sure iv never had mine over grow. you should be feeding things like snails and shrimp to help keep his beak in check mine like small crabs.

if you search it on Youtube you can find lots of videos on how to do it safely. something about a particular oil that puts them to sleep and relaxes them helps.

Or you could wait for Pufferpunk to chime in, she is the leading authority on Puffers on the internet. anything puffer related you need to know, she will help. shoot her a PM if youre in a hurry.

With Some puffers it is unavoidable (south american puffers for instance). But i believe a figure 8's will self trim with the appropriate food. Some people through in nerite snails, thier shells are supposed to be too hard for a figure 8 to pierce but his attempts to eat them will be like a continuing source of trimming.

As for your current predicament, sorry i dont know much but as the post above me said, lots of videos on youtube.
