Hi all,

I'm struggling a bit with my rhoms diet. He's six inches and will only eat a small bit of salmon every second night.

I'm aware salmon isn't the best for the water but he won't go near any white fish. I've tried to feed him a good lot of things like shrimp, hake, cod, muscles and lance fish but won't go near any.

I've also tried to stuff the salmon with pellets but manages to sniff the pellet out and eat around it.

Is his current diet really bad and would you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help

Thanks guys.

I have him around 6 months and the longest would maybe be a week. My problem really isn't so much the salmon, it's if that is enough to be giving him.

I've never tried garlic, you think it's worth a shot?

I'm not an expert on rhoms or similar fish by any means, but they are generally voracious eaters from what I've read right?, you may want to look at your water params, tank temp and maybe have some preventative meds handy just in case this turns out to be a different issue. I'd starve him for a while, and maybe dose the tank with some salt and prazi-pro just to start covering anything underlying such as internal parasites that may be driving his appetite way down. Please update when you have water params and the temp, good luck!

Don't know them off the top of my head but water params are good. No nitrite or ammonia and only a small amount of nitrate. I do a 60% water change every week so it should be tip top. He's in a 75g on his own as well.

From what I've been reading it seems that they are only voracious when larger but only eat a small amount when younger. Not sure if this is true or not but it would explain my situation

Small rhoms tend to be picky eaters. So the amount you are feeding seems ok. I would starve it for awhile and offer white fish daily until it eats.

As recommended it is always a good idea to treat wild caught fish with prazipro just as a precaution.
