when is a good time to take them out

2 weeks, 1 month tops. I feed my fry crushed omega one flakes.

you can. Crush them really good. and feed the adults regular.

Once the kids become free swimming, it should be fine to remove the parents.

Once the parents start acting like they want to breed again is when I suggest removing them though you can remove them sooner. Crushed flakes will make a fine food for the fry but wait until they are free swimming and have absorbed their yolk sacs.
