I have been wanting to get back into my fishes.
Started out wanting 1x Oscar and getting a 65g tank. Well.. I was like well I should spend the extra bucks and go with a 90.. but then guess what? I seen 125g tanks and was like DAAAMN << I want it.

So here it is.
65 gallon I will just get a oscar.
90 maybe a oscar and some sort of pleco
125 is were it gets fun :grinno:

Let me know! Also.. for a 125 what filters would keep it super clear no problem?

What would you put in a 125 with a Oscar? (Its either a Oscar or Arowana) I love the size of them both. Arowana is a little big for a 125g?

I have owned all of these tanks
the 135 was the biggest disappointment
all I could see was 300 after I brought it home ;(

the 55/65 is wat I like to call the biggest of the starter aquariums
you see them for sale on CL as HUGE FISHTANK
they would also be on the bottom of the large tanks (your post as example)

The 125/135 is the next level, largest of the large tanks
but smallest of the Monster tanks
Do it if you can, but be warned
it will open your eyes to the Monsters

I went from a 55 to a 125 in a matter of 2 months since I had oscars and needed to upgrade. I still had time as I bought my Oscars as babies but I spent each day scouring craigslist to find a bigger tank.

I now have my 125 set up with both an FX5 and a XP4 to keep it clean. I have asked santa (wife) for an overflow to plumb the FX5 through as oscars are MESSY and the overflow will help catch their floating messes while the XP4 handles the mid level stuff more.

If I could do it all over again I would get a sump and run that in conjunction with the XP4 as I like the XP4 more so then the FX5 especially when cleaning.

As Ar0wan said though, you will be lookin for a much larger tank. I am trying to get some renovations in the house done so that I can have the basement to myself for a 300-500 monster tank next. All I need to do is retire from playing hockey, sell my custom pads, and buy the tank. lol. Sounds so easy but we all know it isnt. HA HA

I started with a 65g (36x18 footprint) with the intention to raise a single Midas. Within 3 months I had decided I wanted a community tank based around the Midas, so I got a 120 (60x18 footprint). Now I wish I would have waited just a bit longer and found at least a 24" wide tank, either a 180g or 220g. Buy the biggest tank you can afford and you will still be looking at larger tanks.

Any Arowana (to the best of my knowledge) will be far to large for an 18" wide tank. Especially the most commonly available "Silver Arowana". I would advise extensive research on this fish before any purchase.

As to your question about tank size for purchase would say first settle on a budget for your the needed purchases.
You will need at minimum:

1) Tank
1) Stand
1) Light
1 - 3) Filters depending on Tank size
1-3) Heaters depending on Tank size
1) Test kit for water parameters.

Buy the biggest tank (and needed accessories) you can afford. Then pick the fish you can responsibly house and care for.
IMO, if you are really serious about this get a tank that is either 4' L x 2' W or 6' L x 2' W at minimum. 18" wide tanks have a lot of limitations.
Good luck,

Matt
