i was just wondering, if a gar had stunted growth(for example instead of 14" it's 9") from living in a tiny tank, , will it be able to grow if put in a large tank?

yeah it will grow depending on how long it was in the small tank and how old it is. but it should grow atleast a little more

one and a half years in that little tank??

now it sounds like i have that stunted gar:D

okay needa ask this qn again, my friend has 2, 9" spotted gars that i want. however they are extreamly stunted, supposedly to be 14", and have been in a tiny tank for about half a year. if i bring it over to my 4' will it recover and lead a normal life?

they should get back to normal once in a larger tank

It depends on the codition of the gars.. My lfs had a pair of gator gars in a 2 foot tanks with some other catfish.. The gars were around 12".. Their jaws were bent upwards.. They could barely swim properly..

I have purchased potential monsters that were raised in small tanks around 55 gallons and I will never do so again.

Every time I do feel sorry for a potential monster in a tank that he can hardly turn around in I take it home and find that it can nowhere near keep up with the growth rate of other fish of the same species that have grown up in an adequate sized tank.

They hardly ever seem to recover their growth rate and very possibly may not even be able to reach a decent maximum size for that species.

Though in this case you know how long those gars have been in an inadequate sized tank, it may be that it hasn't permanently stunted them yet.In my case(s) I never knew how long the fish had grown up in a small tank.

my $0.02 hope it helps (at the very least I hope it makes sense)
