This below is an ad on craigslist. They did have a picture of the Pacu and he does look to be 11 inches. My question is will he grow any bigger since he is 5 to 6 years old and has been living in a 75 gallon tank or is he stunted for life???

75gal salt water or fresh water tank
stand with cabnet doors and adjustable shelf
hood light and glass lid
2 duel flitters
2 heaters
palm tree , divers helmet, alligator (mouth opens & shuts) tank decorations
and much much more
11" pacu he is 5 or 6 yrs old .really cool fish (he will eat banna's , cucumbers, grapes ,feeder fish and flake food etc.)
tank is only 1 yr old
TANK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!

Well if the tank is only one year old, makes you wonder what he was in before. I would say yes, he will grow some more, but will never reach full size or live as long.

I had a group of pacu that lived a couple years in a 55 gallon. Moved them to a 400, then an 8,900 gallon. Took awhile, but they did get big. I woild say they definitly had negative side effects though. They only paced the front window and wouldn't use the whole tank... just like in the 55 gallon.

My first pacu was 6 inches and 5 years old when I got it. It came out of a 20 gallon tank! She grew an inch a month when I put her into first a 210 and now a 450. At about 18-19" she slowed down to an inch every 2-3 months. Currently about 22" long.

My second pacu came from a 70 gallon tank at 13", it had been in there a long time but I am not sure how many years. Also grew an inch a month in the 210 until reaching about 20" and has now slowed down despite living in a 450.

Yup the fish will grow and grow and grow. I hope you have a big tank planned.

I feel sorry for it. No, I do not plan on getting a pacu ever they get way to big for me. I was just worried about it. I hate seeing huge fish in such small aquariums and I see this kind of stuff every time I look on craigslist. I just hoped it was not stunted.

yeah it would be perfect for a few years in a 75

No. It wouldn't.

As a past pacu owner i wouldnt put a pacu in a tank for longer than a year of [urchase around 8-12 inches. Mine was 17 inches when i moved him in another tank then sold him when he got over 20 inches to a guy with a massive tank. If you put this fish in a small tank they are capable of breaking it when they flip out
