I've had my endli for approximately 4 months and it hasn't grown at all. It's eyes seem to be more bugged out than is normal too, not popeye though. Eats great just doesn't grow. Any thoughts?

Got him the same time as my delhezi and albino senegalus and they are now 8" and 6" respectively. They all eat the same things: blood worms, shrimp pellets, sinking carnivore pellets, spectrum, raw sea food, and ocasional night crawlers and black worms.

How big is your endly now? Is it kept with your delhezi and albino in the same tank? Water quality good?

IME, endlys grow fastest when frequently fed alot... along with frequent water changes.

about 3.5", great water quality, all in a 125 gallon

lots of water changes... Some if not all fish put off a pheromone, and when the pheromone levels reach too high a point, they stop growing. By changing water, you're reducing the pheromone's and triggering growth.

When I was younger, and didn't understand the water change thing, I had a pleco that just about trippled in size when I started changing water 2x a week.

I hadn't heard the pheromone idea before, but I do know that frequent water changes help to replenish trace elements that get used up by the tank and fish. Replacing these lost trace elements help to encourage growth spurts. All of my other fish are growing in leaps and bounds especially all of my plecos. I do a 50%-75% water change every 2 weeks, I also add 7.0 buffer and Black Water Extract.

I am amazed that an endly that size is not growing at a faster pace?... Polypterus usually have a fast growing spurt from juvenile stage to until about the 10-12" mark.

Does your endly equally compete with your delhezi and albino during feeding time... considering that delhezi and senegalus sp. are much more active, compared to P. e. endlicheri?

He's less than half their size so there isn't really any competing for food. The Endly just cruises around and minds his own buisness. He does get plenty to eat, but I wouldn't say he's fat
