ive had my RTC now for about 10 months(give or take a month)but he is barley at 6" and i bought him at 3"!!i dident take vary good care of him when i first got him sence i started him in a 20g and had planed to get a 75g then 125(i have both now but have to set them up)then a 8' dia indoor pond, but soon after i got him there were plans to move witch took longer than i thaught so he was in the 20g(with feeding every three days and weekly WCs)untile sept 29 he was moved into a 30g with WCs every three days and daily feeding(smelt, prawn, snapper filets)then on nov 20 i started daily 50-75% WCs temp at 80 yet he still hasent grown at all, he will be in the 75g by monday i hope but should i still do daily WC or wonce a week? and will he start to grow and get to normal size or have i caused searius damage to him? if anyone has any advice i would apreciate it sence i realy wont to get this guy in a big tank and growing now!

I've kept RTC's for over 20 years and have had some really fast growers and some REALLY slow growers. If you do have a slow grower enjoy him. They are so cute when small !!!!

I once got a little RTC from a friend who had him in a 30 long for 3 years and he was only about 8". He was healthy and looked great but just never grew. Well..... he grew to well over 2' in about 2 years in my 150 wide tank, feeding him the same thing. In my opinion, nothing will stop or stunt a RTC's growth if he's given good water conditions and a little swimming room. As a matter of fact that RTC was my most colorful one to date, with very light colors and a deep blood red tail.

i have heard a few things about this too. i have heard that the ones that grow slower are of better shape and colour. i don't know whether this is true or not, but i have seen a RTC that apparently took many many years to get to 30 inch and he had the best tail i ever seen and very very good shape to him.who's knows though, eh?
