im always hearing about making sure to put certain fish in the right sized aquariums, or u will stunt their growth. is keeping, say, a baby arowana, in a 100 gallon aquarium for several yrs, going to do it harm? with everything being constant(good diet, clean water, etc), how will that tank effect it in the long run?

Depends on the species of arowana you're talking about. Some grow much longer than the others particularly silvers and will need a much wider length and width in order to allow their bones to develop properly. A lot of aros take less than a year to reach a foot. By the time they already reach a foot, you must prepare a much larger compartment for them otherwise you risk stunting them significantly.

Aside from proper diet and proper environmental conditions, ample space must also be considered. A lot of stunted fish often have spinal issues and other body deformities as a result of lack of space that disallows their body to stretch properly.
