shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
this may be a dumb question but i wanna ask anyways so i dont accidentaly fry my fish. i have a 90 with a 50 gal heater, and i was wondering if i get another 50 gal heater with temperature control and have both in at 78 degrees, would the water be 78 or would it be more since there are 2 heaters?

also, what kind of thermometers do you guys use? i had a glass one with a suction cup which was really good but my oscars smashed it up, and i got one that is plastic and sticks onto the front of the tank, but it doesnt seem to give accurate results

just put the heater by your filter and adjust to 78 dagrees i don't think you need another. as for a thermometer, i use the suction cup one. just put the therometer in one of the corners so your "O" won't crush it.

I use one of the glass thermometers, but just let it float.

I agree with chinook, your heater designed for a 50 will likely heat your 90, no problem, as long as its placed near a source of water circulation (filter intake).

Heaters are rated by gallons, but it's rated for it's ability to increase that particular gallon size 18 degrees above ambient room temp, so unless your room temp is 18 degrees lower than you want your tank, you should be fine with the one you have.

it has been doing fine all summer, but i havnt had this tank through a winter and my basement can get cold. i guess i will just see what happens. if i do end up needing another though, would a second 50 work fine or should i get a 90?

Side Question, In the Market for a Heater for my tanks,

What brand is good?

Have a 55, 30, 39, 2 X 10G

Always use two smaller heaters rather than one properly sized heater. The reason is that if the thermostat sticks in the 'on' position, it can cook the tank. A smaller heater that is stuck on will have a harder time cooking the tank and the second heater will stay off.
