:screwy:Welp i am stupid this is the situation im setting up a brakish water tank for this moray eel and im cyclying it as we speak i used mature water and filter ect... so i put the heater from my turtle tank on it and i went to the pet store to but another heater for it and sea salt hydrometer ect when i come back i realized i forgot the heater so i unplugged the heater to put it back in my turtle tank and guess what........... IT EXPLODED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as soon as i put it in the water luckly my turtle and oscar did not die....... im a moron now i have to go buy 2 heaters ensted of 1 :( :screwy:

is the filter out of a freash water tank? if its going to take a lot longer to cycle the tank cause the bio filter needs to addapt to the SG. it can adapt with in a .002 change. i bought stress zyme to give min a boost when i set uo my puffer tank, and give a higher diversity of bactieria so they can adapt quicker

Stresszyme will do nothing. Adding dead bacteria (waste) to an already stressed biological bed will only make it harder to cycle.

.......... well i added a lot of feeder gfish to the tank to make sure they were healthy before i feed them to my O's so the tank i think is cycled

You should buy test kits. Then test the water. Then you'll know if it's cycled. You can't tell by looking at it!

+1! Just because feeders didn't die, means nothing. They can handle more ammonia/nitrite than other fish, that's why misinformed people use them for cycling. They also carry tons of pathogens/disease, you don't want in that tank or fed to your O (Oscar?).

Interesting info about feeders: This is probably the worst possible choice. Raw goldfish flesh contains thiaminase, an enzyme that causes the breakdown of thiamin. If you feed your fish a diet that consists only of goldfish, they may become thiamin deficient. This can result in feeding cessation, clamped fins and problems with the nervous system. Although it can be interesting to observe your predator consuming feeder fish, feeder fish do not provide a nutritionally complete diet. It may be necessary to feed your fish live food initially, such as live ghost shrimp, fiddler crabs, freshwater crawfish, feeder guppies or mollies. Unfortunately, many aquarists feed their fish live feeder goldfish.

yes this i kno as of now i have been moving the off feeders and the tank is CYCLED! i have added NUTRAFIN (CYCLE) and i added fish at the sametiMe

Neither of which will cycle your tank. The product, Cycle is nothing more than dead bacteria (waste) added to your tank, as are adding fish. What are your parameters now?

you can try to use Bio-Spira as an alternative to Cycle, but I imagine it is essentially the same thing nowadays.

Yeah, since the product isn't refrigerated... :( Dr Tim's is the same product as the old B-S though. Dr Tim invented the origional.
