So, the crappiest thing happened a little while ago...

I was doing an 80% water change on my 29 gallon grow out tank containing my 2 baby senegals, 4.5" and 5". When doing larger water changes, I use a Flotec 350 gph water pump... after sucking out the old water, I just reverse the hoses to fill it back up (ghetto Python). When the tank was about halfway empty, something loud on tv caught my attention for maybe 1 second. I turned back to the tank just in time to see a tail shoot up the hose, and a split second later before I could shut the pump off I heard the sickening, high pitched whining sound of the pump motor when it gets bogged down. I removed the intake hose to find my 4.5" senegal dangling from the motor's intake. Without going into gory details, let's call it "severe head trauma." Yeah, poor guy didn't make it due to my short attention span. :(

The ironic thing is, just this morning I ordered a Python because I'm tired of dragging out my water pump and hoses when doing water changes. Someone slap me.

ba'jiiii (slap)

there, now don't do it again.

it's okay, it has happened to many of us unfortunately

:( sorry man.
We all make mistakes, usually worse than that

It's an unfortunate sad mistake but I got to admit it was:ROFL:. You might want to invest in a prefilter for the pumps to keep things like this from happenning again. I would cry then curse if this happen to my platinum bichir.:grinno:

Laughing at my expense, I'm devastated :cry:

Jk... but as far as the prefilter goes, I have a Python on the way so I won't be using the pump much longer. It'll be here just a tad too late though...

I always REMOVE my fish before using my siphon, I'm just too paranoid about one of my babies getting stuck in those tubes!! We had a missing corydora, and when we were vaccuuming the tank, we found his body....when it got lodged in the siphon tube and Brian had to try and get it out (fortunately he was already dead) it wasn't a pretty sight.......
:barf::headshake

When I do water changes, I bury the intake in the gravel after the gravel vac. That ensures no fish can swim up the tube.
