Ok, I don't expect anyone to learn anything from this post as you should just know better.
I knew better but based on some past experiences with these fish I thought it would go ok.
I brought home my new 5" Arowana today at lunch break and ran a water test and set him in the tank in the bag for the temp to equalize. I released him carefully after 45 minutes or so and watched him for an hour without any issues.
All the while forgetting about the dwarf spotted puffers and their habits at the other end of this planted tank.
You know what else happened.......
By the time I returned home (three hours later) they had beat the snot out of his beautiful fins. He is ok and just looks a bit ragged.
But usually they have always eat the crustaceans and small fish and never bothered with fish in the upper strata.
Well........
Needless to say they are in the timeout tank for a few. Thankfully I run another 40 with all African cichlids that the puffers don't mess with.
Damn!!!!!!
I will post some pics of the damage when I calm a bit.
