i recently cleaned out all my plants out of my 125g. i have a c02 system that i used to keep the ph around 6.7 and c02 around 30pmm.

i cleaned all the glass and vacummed all the substrate. the tank has no fish right now. my tap water comes out about 7.2 ph. normally in all my other tanks the ph will drop and then stay steady at 6.7-6.8.

for some reason, and it could be related to the plants that use to be in it, the ph is staying steady around 7.9. i have the c02 system turned off.

when i cleaned it i did a 70% wc . the ph dropped to 7.5 then back up to 7.9 the next day. kinda odd i think.

the substrate is florite and gravel mix, no argonite or crushed coral.

2 eheim 2080 canisters.

You most likely need some buffering compounds (salts) which maintains a more consistent pH. I use Seachem products, which can be found on foster & smith website.

fish need a constant ph rather then a certain number. keep it where your tank its naturally at and they will be happy.

this is true. but some fish cant tolorate a ph in the upper 7's. in time it is possible they will get used to it. if they survive.

i can use the co2 system to maintain a specific ph. but when u add an air pump to the mix u can burn through some c02.
