as the title says its a dumb question but i wana now be for i do it i have a 65gl brackish tank with just my freshwater moray in it my question is i see people have the clay like flower pots in the tanks for hiding and looks i wana to do that for my eel cuz i think he would like it alot better then what he has to hid in but i was wondering if i do it will it rase my PH mess with my water and so forth and if not how do i clean it to put it in my tank thanks guys

It shouldn't, I have 2 clay pipes in my moray tank with no water issues. If you're in doubt, stick the pot/pipe in a bucket of water for a few days and check what happens.

i put a clay pot in my tank because it releases a special chemical that softens up the water every month, constantly. so that saves up the adding salt to my tank every month

?????..please explain

Was about to ask the same thing - surely then your clay pot would be dissolving? And are you sure its a clay pot?

yeah... that clay pot sounds a bit iffy. it wouldnt be in my tank if its leaching things into my water.

to the OP if your worried about adding clay pots to the tank either leave them in a bucket and monitor the params for a few days, or get some PVC pipe and use that instead. if it was going in my tank, id get some slate or flat rock and cover the pipe with that too.

a) i dont like the look of plant pots in aquaria
b) it will hold the pipe in place, stopping it being moved around in the tank.
c) i like the look of slate...

:)

we have 2 C.tiles, both just over 2 ft long, and its all we can do ( short of feeding them) to get them out of their pvc pipes! We also found its a good idea to take the pipes out occasionally to make sure there is no decaying food hidden within
