:wall: yes Caps lock is necessary... last night i was watching a movie fell asleep on the couch... heard a bang.. from the fish tank, got up looked. everything was fine about to go back to sleep and i see my Sen on the floor :WTF:...
the only thing i can think of is it hit the door (yes the thingy that opens.. calling it the door for a lack of better words) and try flying for freedom..
i had it happen with my bala shark.. when the lid was off..
i never heard of a Sen jumping.. has anyone this problem...
cuz if i was in bed i would have lost my sen... not like id notice... until later cuz the dog probably would had a snack.....

i have bin putting in small guppies as a snack.. and i got some tape on the door for now...

Like arowanas, bichirs have a tendancy to jump.
Please keep all possible ways of escape sealed and lids secure like TGM said.
Add something to weigh down the "door" so that this never happens again

very common... I lost my first bichir this way because I didnt get to him in time, had a lid on the tank but it was not tight, my kids found it alive and dehydrated on the other side of the room. that being said. I see my current bichirs dart up to the surface of the water for air sometimes, they are very fast and sometimes do hit the lid. they do this right along the side of the glass so make sure there are no openings in the lids, around where you may have any of the plumbing.

Ok so it happens... great... there is no gaps at all so it cant get out... i have the door taped.. wish i could put something over it.. but its curved.
Thanks for the quick responses

(like this.... but mines bigger..)

actually you can glue/tape something on the back of the door for additional weight.
An unused Jenga block or lego for example

Get a bag filled with rice or sand.

their are a lot of sticky threads here about bichir keeping, and one of them states that they are escape artist, if you have time you should brush up on them.

i lots one of my Congicus the same way, i knew they were jumpers, but after doing a 30% water change i failed to place back the lid on the portion where the hose went in, the next day i was missing one of my congicus and never found its body, my cats probably ate it.
