I've found a few on ebay, and aquabid, but i would really like to avoid shipping if at all possible (their O2 requirements make me leery of shipping them)

and i would really like to find diamonds

if anyone has info please PM me
thanks

Diamonds get huge. The guy on ebay and aquabid are the same person from FL. I ordered from him before, they camw in really good and healthy. He has both sterlets and siberians. Just ask him and he will quote for you.

huge is ok :headbang2:headbang2

there are 2 people selling out of florida on aquabid ... one is "consolidatedff" and the other is "fwta183" ... do you know which one you dealt with?

fwta183. dont do it through aquabid, just be like one of my friends recommended you to me about sturgeons and tell him which ones you and which sizes he has. Ask for larger sizes, anything 5 inches and up are good, dont get smaller ones, can die easily

I have 6 siberian sturgeons. Bought them all at 2". As long as you feed them, they will not die.

Before we talk about which sturgeon, or sturgeons at all, what size pond do you have?

my backyard koi pond is 2000g, but once i get a place of my own it'll be more along the lines of 10,000-15,000g
and i also have an uncle who has a private pond/lake in northwest ohio (not connected to any other waterways at all ... probably 5-10 miles from the nearest body of water) and i dont know exact dimensions, but its over a half mile long, and at least a quarter mile wide. unsure of depth, but its over 20'

2000 gallons is enough of room for a sterlet, and a siberian for a little bit, but the siberian will quickly feel cramped, and they are extremely good jumpers.

Not trying to sound rude, but don't plan stock for a pond/tank you don't have. I built a pond in my back yard.. it's not done yet- it's huge, but is still only 6,000 gallons.

And what would be the point of getting a sturgeon if you're gonna put it in your uncles lake later on? You would NEVER see it.

As for getting a Diamond... not going to happen here in the US. You are looking at sterlets and siberians unfortunately. I searched for years for a Diamond.

i had a pretty good feeling diamonds are hard to come by, but 5-10 years ago they were available in the US hobby ... i can always dream :) especially with some of the high quality importers around the various forums

hopefully i could keep it until its 5-6' or so in my own ponds where i could enjoy it for several years ( i know that i currently have a pond that will house it to 3.5', and i know i will have a pond in 2-3 years when I move, its just a matter of how large that pond will be)
... and as for putting it in the lake, i know i would never see it at that point, but at least it would be able to live out a good life from then on.
I checked with my uncle and its actually a bigger lake than i thought. He said roughly 1.25 miles long x .75 miles wide x at least 60' deep in the center!!!

I am not saying you won't have a pond.. but don't plan and get stock for something you don't have because it may take longer to acquire/build said pond than you think that's all. Because we all know that life gets in the way unfortunately.

IF you are going to put it in that pond of your Uncles.. check the oxygen levels. Sturgeons need lots of oxygen, and many lakes lack that. But I would love to grow some koi in that pond! You would get some monsters.
