I Own a house up in Grand Lake Colorado and the house sits on two giant ponds stocked with rainbow trout and Brooke trout. I was wondering if I can add around 10 sturgeon I don't care if all the trout get eatin I'd rather fish for sturgeon than trout anyways! The ponds do freeze over in the winter. The ponds are about the biggest being around 75 yards lond by 25 yards wide and the smallest being 50 yards long and 25 yards wide.

I would say as long as it is YOUR pond, and not streamfed ur good to go. Also filtration would be good. And as long as there is always water under the ice they should be fine

the sturgeon will do fine under the ice. Also, sturgeon dont eat fish they eat small organisms like worms and insect larva. If you want bigger fish (HUGE) go for sturgeon if you want something smaller like 3 feet go for sterlets which dont grow as large. Those ponds are big enough for either

yeah you could do it so long the ponds are deep enough that they don't freeze solid in the winter and there was a good food supply, i.e. crayfish, small trout and blue gill for them to eat. My question is where will / are you getting big enough sturgeon at in Colorado to put in these ponds without being trout bait?? All the sturgeon I have found around here are like 4" Max..?? Cool idea though!

Thank you everyone. My plan is to grow around 5 of them out in a lobster tank from red lobster with the chiller set to the temps of the ponds. Also when these does become a reality I plan to add several pounds live crayfish. And a couple thousand of rosey reds.

Get a white surgeon. Your looking at a 12' beast. Of course it would take some time to get it that big.a school of those would be legit.

I'm thinking of sterlets because i have a wholesale account with aquascape so I can get them for $12.50 each.
