Sturgeon

78-80 is very, very hot for them...I kept a 12"er at 76 with no problems, but the young ones are delicate in regards to temperature.

It really depends on the species of sturgeon, some like the white and green we get from the west coast are really cold water fish and suffer when kept at tropical temps. ( Remember that tropicals can live quite well from 68 to 78, they don't all require bath water warm water) many people insist on keeping their tanks about 78 or even higher.

Most sturgeon are cool to cold water fish. Shovelnose are the most temperature tolerant you are likely to get hold of but sterlets aren't too far behind. A sterlet or shovelnose will do ok with lots of aeration at temps up to low 80's for short periods but i prefer to keep them mid 70's or low 70's .

High oxygen levels are needed and of course the colder the water the more oxygen it can hold. I've been told that lake sturgeon are also some what high temp tolerant as well but they get to be so large it almost boggles the mind to think of th tank they would require.

Well oxygenated water good biological filtration and large tank will help you be successful with sturgeon. Choosing a smaller species is a good idea too.

Remember never release a captive fish into the wild the chance of spreading disease is not worth it, euthanize the fish humanly if you can't keep it.
