i disagree that they are "hard to keep". if you keep your water clean, you keep your water cold, and you keep your water aerated, its not hard to keep to keep them alive!
as far as "growing slow" ... i dont know about that either. i've had them for 6 months or so, and they've grown from 3" to 10", and all i feed them is forzen bloodworm (it's all they'll eat)

i dont remember exactly when i got them, but it was sometime in july/august
they started in my 29, then into a 90g, and now they are in a 150 (b/c i got a GREAT deal)
the tank has sand substrate, temp is about 64-66, i have a 14" bubble wand on one end of the tank, aggitating about 1/2 the tank, as well as 3 AC110s breaking up the surface (thus aerating some more). some floating plants and bioballs for some extra bio, but thats about it.
i do not have salt in the tank. i will read up on it, and maybe add some, but they are healthy as-is IMO
i will see if i can't get some good pics, although my camera is junk and they never slow down!
as i said before, they are eating frozen bloodworm (if anyone has advice to get them on to pellets, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!) once, occasionally twice a day
if anyone has any questions, just let me know. i am no expert, but not many people have them, and mine are still alive and happy, so i guess i am ahead of everyone else, lol
Sounds like they're doing great. This really makes me want to try a sterlet when I can get a bigger tank. Since your house has air conditioning, they might be ok for the summer, but be careful. My house isn't air conditioned so I lost my white sturgeon one hot day with no warning. Good luck with them.new2natives;2662139; said:i'm not running a chiller, the tank is near a window in ohioi haven't decided what i will do this summer... maybe let them spend a few months with just the house AC cooling them (hopefully 68-70ish?) but i will wait and see what this summer brings
Is the tank cycled? They aren't overly sensitive fish, but when they're young, they're not super hardy either. What temps have you tried to keep them at? Is there extra aeration? For an 8", I wouldn't do less than 75-90 gallons and it would likely need an upgrade in only a few monthsuting;2690862; said:my stretlets cannot survive dose any body know how big the tank should be for a 8''?
