I know this topic is or can be a little argumentative but your personal experiences will help me decide. I want a feeding schedule to get the best health and coloration possible with my female Festae. In your personal experience, is it better to feed once or twice a day? My Festae is only about 3". I want to feed the same time everyday and I want her to get to know me as well.

It's still a baby, so feed often and on the heavier side since it's growing out. You can cut way back on the feeding frequency once it grows out. Best health and color will come from feeding quality food and good water conditions (plenty of water changes & frequently cleaning out the filters). It'll come to know you as the meal ticket in no time

That's what I was thinking. I feed her morning and night but she doesn't eat well. It almost seems like she doesn't know I'm putting food in, has no interest or isn't hungry. She'll eat it but only like 2 tiny pellets. I tried floating medium size hikari and it just floats around the top until it gets stuck behind filter and I've tried tiny sized Aqueon slow sinking pellets and most of those end up lost in my gravel. I'm going to get some nls and a brand called cobalt but I want her to know when she sees me approach the tank it's feeding time and not waste the food. I don't want to buy top shelf food that will just get wasted...

How long have you had her?

Never mind, just read your other post on her. I wouldn't bother buying a different brand pellet. I think it just needs some adjustment time. I would do a water change and vacuum out all the left over food, keep the aquarium lights off for awhile, and wait a couple of days before trying to feed her again. This time, just drop in a few pellets and move out of her range of sight......give her privacy. Check back later to see if see ate anything, if not, wait a couple of more days and repeat the same steps. If she does eat, then increase the number of pellets each time. GL

I wouldnt feed a fish that doesnt readily take whatever im feeding. Its worth being a bit stubborn at first and the fish wont die of starvation unless you skip like a month of feeding.

I just checked my nitrates and it's at 40ppm! That's the highest it's EVER been! Most definitely time for gravel vac and wc!

I keep ghost shrimp sectioned off. They're gut loaded with veggie wafers and color enhancing pellets. I'll probably just release them after I clean the tank. There's about 8 of them. 1 squeezed through the divider yesterday and she got pretty excited about it and has been pacing the divider ever since. I'll wait a few days to feed her pellets again
