I'm going to have glass cut today for my DIY sump, I'm using a 40g breeder for the sump, 210g display, freshwater. Should I set up the sump so that the bio media (about 4L of Seachem pond matrix) is completely submerged or trickle style like a standard wet dry? I will be using a piece of Poret foam at the entry of the sump for mechanical and a little bit of additional bio filtration. In addition to the sump, I will be using two Ocean Clear canister filters.

I have my matrix completely submerged in the sump and trickled filter over my scrubbies

Curious what your bio load is and how much matrix you are using?

Mine trickles over 10 gal of bioballs. I then packed the "wet" part of the filter with japanese pond mat. It's great stuff
