Ok, before i toss this thing, have you ever had a heater start making a whining noise? Almost like the flash of a camera charging, or a really weak impeller? It's a 300 watt Hagen Elite.

There are zero moving parts in the heater, the only thing it could be is stray current, or its a bubbler or filter. I thought my filter was jacked cuz it was whinning then I realized my bubble line had a hole.

I was doing a big water change and had shut off the filter (Emporer 350), and kept hearing this Whining. I unplugged the lights, still heard it. I unplugged the heater and it actually slowed to a stop like an engine winding down! I've never had anything like this happen before which is why I'll just toss it if nobody has an idea on a fix. It's well past the warranty, so I'd just replace it with one I'm not using right now.
Yikes, thanks F1, consider it done. I noticed this morning that it makes the noise while heating up, so I'll pull it immediately.
