Hey just wondering what a good substitute would be for feeding live bbs to my 1 week old umbee fry. ive been feeding them crushed up high protein flakes and some frozen daphnia but know thats still not as good as live bbs. i have live bbs that i can hatch but dont have anything to heat the water so its about 65 degrees only so im not getting a very good hatch rate. might just go to walmart and get a lamp that can heat up the jar im using but was curious on other substitutes. i put in some daphnia and they went crazy on it but its frozen daphnia so its a lot of water and not a lot of protein. i would like to get these guys beefed up real fast. i still have them in the tank with their parents where they are also feeding on all the micro organisms.

I leave fry with parents and feed parent's. Parents in turn make tiny food particles for fry to eat. I also keep them in algae heavy tanks. This allows fry to graze all day. Versus feedings in a bare tank.

cool ya the tank theyre in has been running for quite a while and has algae growth on it and i feed the parents quite a bit. i was thinking also that it would seem quite hard to feed fry live bbs in a 220 gallon tank. most of it would go to waste i would think.

You can also use a hand-held coffee grinder to grind up pellets into bite sized pieces. They're pretty cheap.

Just crush the pellets to almost dust and if u have a tank with lots of algea the fry eat all day long.
