Hi,

I was just wondering if it is a good idea to put 4 litres of Substrat pro in a Sump? rather than bio balls? or have the bio balls at the top followed by a foam mat, then the Substrat pro on top of another mat?

Regards,

Substrat Pro would work well in a sump. The way I suggest you set it up is to have the Substrat Pro near the bottom of the sump chamber so it is fully submerged, and to have the bio balls above it. The bio balls need to be exposed to the air to work properly, the water should just drip through them without submersing them. The foam mat should be on top of the bio balls, and I would put filter wool or similar on top of the foam.

I would use poly media to keep the media clean, and put in nylon bags, which would also have to be cleaned occasionally.

leave it submerged under your bio balls.... put it in the nylon socks and forget about it...

all my sump media is submerged
