I have a 36 gallon bow front and I am converting to eco complete for plants. I keep going back and fourth between using red and black eco complete. I keep flip flopping on this so I figured a poll was in order. What are peoples thoughts? My back ground is painted black.

Depends on the red. An earthy red, like clay red, is nice. Crayon red I don't like. If crayon red is your option then I vote black.

Right now they are fairly dull colors but in the future I'm looking for brighter colored fish, reds, yellows, blues and oranges.

Had black for a few years and loved it. Got bored this summer and did a reddish with brown gravel mix and like it but I want to up the brown to red ratio.

Black sub/background most likely can go with anything, any speices, while red substrate only certain species that might boost up its color with red substrate. Another thing is that you wanted to go with plats than black is always good and red is just out of place.
