i have dark gravel in black back tank and perfect dats and had bare bottom and blue back and had perfect dats... color of dats depends on if it is stable...

Not really. I have black sand and a black background. Their colors are fine except under stress. Then they turn dark. I just moved my GT from that tank to another tank with tan sand and a blue background. It's color has gotten lighter. I think the GT looked better in the "dark" tank, but he's getting along with the big boys so I'm keeping him there.

i agree with the others. my tank with my IT has a black background and natural sand. my IT is stable pretty much all the time. my silver dats in the same tank are not the same. one is stable some times the other is hardly stable.

unless dark colors makes your dat depressed than no, it shouldnt effect the color of the dat.
