Substrate-Best and worst

Curious to see what everyone has found to be the best substrate to use for our heavy carnivorous fish (Pacu, gars, etc) that put out a lot of waste.

Also, pacu are omnivores.
Yes they are. But they still eat and put out a lot of waste such as our carnivorous species. I am looking to see what advice those who have been in the greater than 1,000 gallon tank size with larger fish such as those species I listed have in regards to substrate to aid in keeping ammonia levels down (assuming you also have a very good filtration set up).

Yeah, I agree with Backfromthedead Backfromthedead . Big waste producers would simply have any substrate packed with nitrate producing crud in no time. And you simply can't vacuum huge tanks that easily, unless you get in!

Much easier to go bare bottom where crud has no where to go but eventually out of your outlet pipe to your filters.
