I want to switch from smooth stones to sand in my freshwater. Can i make the change without removing the fish? I filter with a Bio350.....how much will my Biological filter be effected?? Thanks!!

How big is the tank? I'd just scoop all the rocks out with a flexible plastic cup i.e.(big gulp/tubberware), while doing a water change to suck up all the crap under the rocks, then when filling back up put a 3-4inch diameter pipe (long enough to come up and out of the tank water when full) down into the tank then pour the sand in from the top, so that it goes directly down and settles at the bottom.
