I plan on getting a 75 gallon for Christmas and i would like to put a single wolf fish in it. I was wondering what substrate i should have in the bottom? I dont want gravel id rather have sand. I know wolf fish like the darker sand but i already have that in another tank and id like a new color. Any suggestions?

Get pool filter sand, looks really nice and alot cheeper then the other sand you can get .... go to home depot or a pool supply place 50lb bag cost around 8 dollars ,, 2 bags is plenty, you might get away with 1 bag and return the other.. oh and DONT get play sand , its lighter and will get sucked up alot easier when doing water changes plus i think its toxic.

Welcome :) and thanks for the info

others have used play sand with no problems, but its a PAIN to get clean. I used pool filter sand in my tank, nice light color, and I didn't rinse mine at all. No cloudiness, no issues what so ever.

get pool filter sand. as they they have a minimum- maximum size. most other sizes only have a maximum size. i used paving sand once i lost 2/3 the bag cleaning it and it still clouds when its disturbed.

i have pool filter sand its a little finer then most, i can gravel vac it. but it doesnt cloud after i washed it, i can pick it up and it will drop back down pretty fast.

theres a certain size you want but i cant remember
