So it will be a while off, but eventually I plan on buying a chinese water dragon for my 90 gallon that sprung a leak. I know it's only a growout for him, because it's not big enough, but I'm willing to upgrade him later on. My question is what kind of substrate to use. I already planted the tank in a mix of sterile potting soil and sand, but I was wondering if I could cover that in bark chips so it doesn't drag dirt into the water area. The dragon would be fed in a separate enclosure to help prevent impaction. Is that a good idea?

I had bark chips in mine and it seemed to work out just fine. Well, I shouldn't say that...I woke up one morning to find him dead. But, he survived several months with bark substrate.

I hope you have better luck than I did!
