Hey, I'm going to get a 75g this weekend and will be buying new gravel/sand. What is best for my Geophaguses? I also have clown loaches that I want to keep happy too.

any small substrate or sand would work well

sand or a fine gravel... i have kept them on a 3/8 pebble with no problems..

Thanks for the info. I was thinking sand. Do you think black would make the Geo's colors come out or the lighter tan/white? Also - anyone from MN know where in the world I can get pool filter sand? Everyone I've called only carries red. Does it even come in black?

well have you tried soem plain old sand like the stuff you buy at meijer? or is that not the look your going for? just try like HD

my bro just picked up some pool filter sand from poolside in little cannada, i havent seen it yet. hope its ok

My Geophagus Jurupari loves gravel of a medium size. He constanly is picking it up in his mouth and spitting it back out - 5-6 pebbles at a time. I would suggest gravel.

I called Poolside and they only have the red flint kind- it seems to be the norm around here :irked:. So I may have to go with 3m.... still cheaper than gravel. Does anyone know if Geos have better color on black or lighter colors?
