I just got a new 150g and im debating on what substrate to use. I have a 110g with 1" 1.5" black rocks as sub. It makes it real easy to vacuum all the crap on the bottom. I was thinking about black sand or small gravel for the 150g but im going to have a lot of fish. I don't know much about cleaning sand and gravel tanks but i would imagine vacuuming it would be a real pain. is it ? and how else would your clean the sand.

I guess my question is What type of Fish do you plan on keeping? Look into the type of environment that they come from. That will put them in the best environment to represent their true species.

how about black sand ? I want to go with sand but isn't a pain to vac the sand. I would like to breed some of those fish as well. Still sand right? and can anyone second that post ^

Sand is mainly for the Stingray. I don't think that it matters to much about the color unless you are purposefully looking to "darken" up your fish... I think that a natural color like playsand or mixed with some lighter sand would be nice looking. Throw some cobble stone in there as well.

P.S. have you looked into whether you will be able to breed any of those fish together in such a community tank? Maybe something important to look into...

thats too many fish in the 150, but if you do get the stingray deff get sand, color doesnt matter. if you don't get the stingray then any substrate would work fine.

no not all of them in the 150g those where just the ones i would probly pick out of. If i dont get the stingray which i probly wont is sand still good for them to breed.
