i was just wondering if anybody here has kept peacock with a sand bottom. if so haw hard is it to keep clean and will i take the chance of it getting in the filter?

Yes. I have.
I prefer small pebbles, not sand. Many problems with sand getting into the filters and stuff. Also, sand compacts and turns almost into a rock-hard concrete type stuff if it is not stirred once in a while. Also, sand is too dense, and all the fish crap settles in mud puddles over top of it and it ends up looking nasty...to me anyway. Your choice :D

yeah you'll end up seeing a lot of crap. you can prevent all if not most of the sand from getting into the filter though.

first add water to the tank all the way to the top. Then use a big bowl and scoop up the sand and gently submerge the bowl to the bottom of the tank and gently tip the bowl and let the sand slowly fall out. It is a bit time consuming but worth it.

I've always loved the look of pbass in a tank with black sand and a black background. but thats just me.
