Are there any problems with removing my sand substrate a few days before switching to my 220? I can keep it in a tub with water, heater and powerhead if needed. Im just trying to make the day i switch 1 less step.

The sand will not carry enough beneficial bacteria to worry about. I would just take it out and keep it in a bucket until your ready. Just don't wait too long or the detritus will start to rot.

agree with pharoah. The BB will probably live in the bucket with the mositure thats in there. But the amount found in the sand is minimal.

Depends what you mean by minmal. There could be thousands of colony forming units per litre of BB and the sand would look pristine.

Keeping it wet for a few days in a bucket should be fine. Be prepared to experience the rotten egg smell when you pour it out though!
